FAQs
What's up with the space theme?
We love Star Trek TNG. Let's have some fun while creating the next community driven open source platform.
What sets AlcoveCMS apart from WordPress?
Plenty of things. We're putting the platform back into community control. There are no corporate interests running the project nor a single person with ultimate say so. Changes to the platform are ran through community petitions. We respect developers to advocate on the behalf of their clients. We understand 'Trust Me Bro' is not good enough.
Will AlcoveCMS be compatible with WordPress plugins and themes?
Yes. For now they are. However, this may change in the future as we decide the direction of the platform. The goal is to make a lightweight, fast and secure platform while reducing technical debt. This might ultimately lead to incompatablity. However, we plan to provide alternatives over time and other 3rd party developers will make their own.
Why should I switch to AlcoveCMS from WordPress?
Besides the obvious: we are working to make the platform lightweight, fast and reduce technical debt as much as possible. We want the platform to be client friendly and a great tool for freelancers, developers and agencies to use for their clients.
Will AlcoveCMS have its own plugin and theme ecosystem?
Ultimately, yes.
What kind of support or community will AlcoveCMS have?
We'll have an official public help forum, documentation and help desk. As we grow, we will introduce CoveCamps and other community supportive events.
Is AlcoveCMS open-source?
Yes, AlcoveCMS is GPL-licensed and a community driven open-source project.
Will there be migration tools from WordPress?
Yes, we are developing a WordPress to AlcoveCMS migration tool.
I have more questions.
